Types of UPVC Door Handles
When your upvc door handle needs replacing it's essential to choose the correct replacement for your home. A locksmith can provide and install high-security uPVC door handles that have additional security features.
The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Check these measurements to ensure that your new uPVC handles will fit.
Lever/Lever
A lever is a solid bar pivoted around a point (known as a the fulcrum). When you apply force to the end of the bar, the fulcrum will tend to turn in the direction the force is applied. This motion increases the force and allows you to lift or move objects that normally require more force to lift.
The distance between the fulcrum of the lever and the point where you apply force determines the maximum movement. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The more the lever extends more, the greater the mechanical advantage. You can calculate mechanical advantage by dividing distance from the fulcrum point to the place where you are applying force by the distance between the fulcrum point and end of the lever.
Levers can produce different effects depending on the way forces are applied. For example, a class 2 lever tends to rotate in the opposite direction as the force applied to it (like a T-totter). If you push the door's handle and force it to open, the forces will cause similar rotational effects to this.
However, levers don't create energy. They simply increase the force you apply by converting a small amount of effort applied over a long distance into a greater amount of force applied over a shorter distance. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and transport huge quantities of cargo. This is also the basis behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools such as crowbars, fishing rods claws for hammers, and even your own legs when you stand on the hand brake of your vehicle.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles are a form of upvc door handle that have levers on both sides that operate the multipoint lock. These are available in various finishes and variations and can be installed on a variety of materials that include UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold as a pair for the inner and outer door with spindles & screws included. They are available in hand and unhandled versions to meet the needs of different users.
They are typically used for new constructions and are used to replace the existing upvc doors. The levers are lowered to open all multipoint locks and the key is turned to lock or close the door. They are more secure compared to standard lever door handles because the locking function can only be accessed by entering the door with a key unless the door is deadlocked.
They are not as safe as a cylinder lock, but they are an affordable way to add extra security to your home. The only disadvantage is that they don't have the same level of protection as a cylinder bolt, and consequently don't block access to outside in the event that the door has been left open.
The majority of lever pad door handles made of upvc that we offer are manufactured by top manufacturers in the industry and will be manufactured with good quality components. They are also generally supplied with a manufacturer's guarantee.
They usually are designed to work with the 92mm lock or a replacement model called the Paddock Lock. They will feature an 82mm cylinder centre on the inside and 62mm outside. They also come with two spindle followers. Some come with the backplate, and others are removable for different fixing centers.
Lever/Snib
Lever latches, which are the simplest of door handles are used. Pressing down on the lever is a simple mechanism that opens inside to keep the door closed, which can be locked with the use of a key. Certain lever privacy handles work in the same way, but with the addition of a lock snib (like knobs for doors).
A snib button is extremely useful, particularly for homes where it's important to maintain privacy or security. You can use the snib handle to stop your guest from entering until they are ready. This type handle is also used in interior doors, such as bedrooms, where you might want to restrict access from outside.

Snib buttons can cause problems in certain circumstances, especially when you have old locks and doors that are warped. If the snib switch is accidentally pressed by someone who is not familiar with it, the door could slam and lock you out. You can usually get in by knocking on the door frame or letterbox. But this isn't a good idea.
If your uPVC has a snib we recommend replacing it with a smart lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. These locks can be retrofitted on pull handle kits that double turn and come with cover plates that hide existing holes for a seamless install. The E-LOK makes use of a smart application to allow you to open the door using RFID cards or mechanical keys, and can be configured with passcodes to ensure security and convenience. The system has been tested to 200 000 cycles to ensure long-term durability. The handles themselves are constructed using a solid metal structure and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.
Lever/Moveable Pad
This is a very popular handle design for front doors. It has the benefit of preventing the door from opening from the outside without a key, if the lock is not deadlocked. This is achieved by a 'pad' shaped external handle which locks in the gap between the handles and the lock case to stop the latch from being removed or the door opened.
This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks that use split spindle mechanisms. This kind of operation requires the internal lever handle and the external pad handle to be fitted within the same lock case. It is a simple change from the current uPVC handles, but it might also involve changing the lock case or even a new set of handles to accommodate this added functionality.
These levers/movable pad handles are suitable for uPVC doors. They feature a maintenance free slide bearing fixing lugs, spring cassettes, and fixing lugs supplied. These handles have an euro-profile cut out and can be mounted on a variety of uPVC or timber doors.
The lever moveable pad is available in many designs to fit a broad variety of multipoint locks. They are specifically designed to be used with split spindle locks with a centre cylinder of 92mm and require a separate set of split spindles supplied by the manufacturer of the lock.
These Hoppe London 77G/3831N/113 lever moveable pad handles are made of cast aluminum with an anodised finish that is resistant to corrosion and high scratch resistance. Lever/Moveable Snib
The lever/lever handle is one of the most sought-after types of upvc door handles and comes in a range of styles. It is comprised of two moveable inline handles and is lockable with either a key or thumbturn cylinder inside. A pad handle can be used as an alternative to lever or lever handles. It consists of either a fixed or moveable pad which can be used to operate locks. These Fullex handles come with a spring-loaded lever pad as well as a snib, which can be activated in order to hold the latch.
